Environmental Governance

In February 2024, with the launch of the ESG Council, the Company reorganized its environmental management system. Building on the ISO 14001 Environmental Management System that has been operated previously, the Company operates a six-tier environmental management responsibility framework that runs from the CEO → CFO → SHE Management Officer → SHE Dedicated Team Leader → SHE Supervising Team Leader → SHE Relevant Team Leader. This structure divides policy approval, implementation, and on-site operation by tier so that environmental management is consistently administered from top management to on-site personnel. Each component is shown in the figure below.

1. Environmental Management Officer in Charge

The overall responsibility for company-wide environmental management lies with Vice President Jong-Woo Yoon (CFO), a C-level executive. As the top responsible person in the environmental management organization chart is designated as a Vice President-level executive, environmental performance is managed within the responsibility of top management.

2. Roles and Responsibilities of the Environmental Management Organization

The environmental management organization operates with roles and responsibilities differentiated by tier.

The CEO approves the company-wide safety, health, and environment policy and finally approves the results of the company-wide management review.

The CFO (Vice President Jong-Woo Yoon) establishes and reviews the company-wide safety, health, and environment policy and assumes overall responsibility for the implementation of the Environmental Management System and overall environmental performance.

The SHE Management Officer finally reviews and approves matters related to the overall environment, including air, water, and waste.

The SHE Dedicated Team Leader (Safety Management Team) manages company-wide environmental processes and revises standard documents, and consolidates the environmental management implementation results of each business site and reports them as management review materials.

The SHE Supervising Team Leader regularly measures and manages environmental prevention facilities, establishes self-imposed management standards, performs environmental permits, and plans and coordinates environmental management activities. The team leader also continuously monitors environmental facilities, conducts self-inspections, and responds to inspections by government agencies.

The SHE Relevant Team Leader promotes pollutant reduction activities and continuous investments, lawfully operates emission and prevention facilities, improves facilities, and prepares statutory record forms. In addition, the team leader prevents corrosion, abrasion, leakage, and dilution of environment-related facilities, investigates causes when non-conformities are found and takes corrective action, and is in charge of monitoring environmental facilities, conducting self-inspections, and establishing repair plans.
